Twitter Launching Lists!
Twitter announced recently that they were building in support for "lists". Their support of this feature is really important and I'm thrilled they are building it in as a core part of the product. So what does this mean for TweetGroups? From the looks of it, Twitter is going about user lists with the same approach as TweetGroups, including the important feature of being able to subscribe to other users' lists. So at this point, I do not believe I will not be doing further development on this project.
What is TweetGroups?
TweetGroups.net is a place where you can create and manage groups for Twitter and have them used within a supported Twitter client. The is a very early stage project, so don't have expectations that are too high. =)
How does it work?
After logging in with your Twitter account, you can either create a new group or subscribe to a group someone else created. As a group creator, you can add and remove users from your list. As a group subscriber, you do not have editing capabilities, but the group will show up in your supported twitter client.
Are all my groups public?
Yes, the intention of this service is to encourage sharing.
What Twitter clients support TweetGroups?
Currently the only client is Tweenky. If your client supports TweetGroups, let me know and I'll add it to the list.
How can I build in support for TweetGroups within my application?
Take a look at this JSON feed, it should have everything you need. The "list" variable in the group in the URL is the username of the user you wish to pull groups for.
But I want to be able to create & manage groups in another application too!
I hope to provide a full read/write API that will be completely open at some point.
Who created this?
Why?
Because taking the time to group your twitter followers is a big ordeal and I don't like the idea of them not being portable between various Twitter clients.
